MRIS Conduit is another free client for downloading data. In contrast to every other client I tried, MRIS Conduit was super simple, intuitive and worked the first time and every time. It downloads data to text/xml files and will also run updates using a built-in scheduler. It also allows you to define individual dataset queries, and combine them into sets that can be scheduled to run as needed. The drawback is that it lacks a direct-to-database import.
I would suggest starting out with this package. It allowed me to see the data and verify the correct parameters. It displays the query string used after you build it which is helpful. I got this to run on Linux as well as Windows. The easy to use interface is very well designed. I designed a Perl process to parse the data files it downloaded and put the information into a MySQL database.
In the end, I gave up and wrote my own download routine. There was just too much hassle of running different programs in synch. By writing a custom routine I was able to get exactly what I wanted the way I wanted. But MRIS Conduit was a helpful start and a useful tool for data verification and exploration. Â
Hi Joe,
You have installed MRIS Conduit in linux. Have you installed it from terminal if so can you update how you did that. I am trying to install it using terminal and unsuccessful in doing so.

I am pretty sure I had to run the Conduit_Installer.bin as root or I sudo’d it. I cannot remember what I did to my java libraries because I did have java troubles with other RETS clients if not for Conduit. One of the clients balked about not finding javac or something so I tried to add the latet version form Sun’s website, which may have altered my java setup from the stock FC6. I run fedora 6.
